Basketball After Dark and Duke of Edinburgh Award unite.

The Gold Coast PCYC has been running Basketball After Dark on and off for three years now and we have come up with a new youth development plan.  Well, it is not exactly new, it is a tried and tested method to challenge young people and give them a sense of achievement.

We have introduced the Duke of Edinburgh Award to our Saturday Night.  Our Basketball After Dark group are about 25 to 30 young people hanging out together, having fun and playing some Basketball.  It currently runs the 2nd Saturday of each month between 6pm and 9pm.  It's free and everyone is welcome to attend.  Here is the group on the 10th of November 2012.  I couldn't decide which photo to give you so you have both.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is an Internationally recognised award for young people aged 14 - 25 years of age.   It is all about trying new things and having a goal in the area of service (volunteering), a skill, a physical recreation and an adventurous journey.  The gold award has the additional requirement of a five day / four night Residential Project.   Everything is achievable and as a Licensed Operator the Gold Coast PCYC is here to help.

Participating students can also earn credits towards their Queensland Certificate of Education  (QCE).

Gold recipients can now bank two credits towards their QCE, while both Bronze and Silver awardees can earn one credit.

If you can't wait until you are 14 there is also The Bridge Award for people aged 11 and 6 months to 14 years of age.  The Bridge Award introduces young people to the Duke of Edinburgh Award and has the same concept of setting goals and achieving them to receive the award.

If you are looking for a Licensed Operator to achieve your goals with please contact the Gold Coast PCYC.   Our next event is the 8th of December 2012 between 6pm and 9pm.  But don't wait until then - sign up today.
