Wrestling Coach 'Ken Matsuto' took 3 Gold Coast PCYC Wrestlers to 4 Gold Medals in the 'Wrestling Queensland State Titles' in May 2011.
They are: Leigh Gapp Seniors U55Kg, Davies-Webby Brothers, Luke - Cadets/Juniors U63/U66Kg and Benn - School-Boys U46Kg.
(all in Free-Style Wrestling)
Leigh, who is also an assistant coach, now adds this medal to a State Gold and National Silver won several years ago. In-between competitions he regularly trips overseas extending his training. Luke and Benn have now medaled 5 years in a row at the QLD State Titles, all Gold except one Bronze. In 2010 they also entered their first 'National School Age Wrestling Titles' and came away with a Silver and Gold respectively in their weight/age divisions.
They are a few of the champions Ken has produced over the many years he has dedicated to the Gold Coast PCYC Wrestling Club.
When you look at Ken's history briefly it's easy to see why. Ken was a 1978 National U82Kg Free-Style Wrestling Japanese Champion, a great feat in a very competitive wrestling nation, and one of his coaches was 1968 Gold Olympic/World Wrestling Champion 'Shigeo Nakata'. Ken also has expertise in other codes, Sumo, Submission and Sambo... which provides a complete Grappling experience.
Other coaches who provide time on the mat when available are Rod Wallace and Mark Brady.
