Tami who attends our group fitness classes most days is an inspiration to us all, along with many other members who make health and fitness such a positive a big part of their every day lives. Tami also has two beautiful children Hani & Tei that are involved in our activities here at the Gold Coast PCYC.

So thank you to all our members who took part in the challenge, we appreciate you all and are happy to have such a loyal member base.

Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you through out spring – remember summer is just around the corner so there is no time like now to go go go…Get Fit, Get Happy and Feel Great for summer.

Gold Coast PCYC would like to welcome our new Judo coach Doug Alderton who is replacing Matt Kinsler.  Doug is pictured here demonstrating a throw and I've asked him to introduce himself below.

Doug: I started Judo over 23 years ago, after taking my sons to a local club in the UK, I was fascinated to watch and rapidly developed a wish to join in the fun my kids were having. I decided to look for and join an adult class, finding a love for the art, which has been infectious and very enjoyable ever since.
Originally training with the Tokushima Budo Council from a little known club in Warlingham, England, under Sensei Ken Williams, who is sadly no longer with us. I then enjoyed training with the BJA along with the likes of Sensei Tim Bass, David Oldfield and Jeff Reed who have been a great inspiration to me and have developed most of my knowledge to date, although always learning in Judo.

On moving to Australia to live, I was most fortunate to be able to train at the Samurai Judo club in Currumbin, under the JFA with Sensei Steve Potter who is totally dedicated to the art and has developed Judo over here in Australia for many years.

I am now proud to have been asked to volunteer at the PCYC Monaco Street, Broadbeach Waters, where I hope to instil the love and passion I have for Judo to others within the local community.  I do hope any enquiries lead to a continuing increase of members in the popular art of Judo at the PCYC.

Once a judoka always a judokaJ

Dougie Alderton
