From PCYC Gold Coast to number one in Australia!

What to do with Keanu while his older sister, Sienna, was in dancing classes at the PCYC!

Well, he ended up joining the tennis classes at the PCYC. And that’s where it all began!

6 years later, Keanu has been identified by Tennis Australia as an up and coming tennis star, he is ranked in the top 2500 male players in Australia and is the number one ranked tennis player in Australia for boys born in 2004!

Keanu was put into the 5 and under tennis classes with PCYC tennis coach Rehana Jafarey –Hall at the age of 4. It was great fun for Keanu, as it beat sitting around waiting for Sienna to finish her dance classes. Not only did he make new friends, he got fit learning a new game!

After a few lessons, Rehana noticed Keanu had excellent hand eye co-ordination and a natural feel for tennis. So she kindly took Keanu on as one of her private students and gave him one on one coaching lessons as well as the group lessons at the PCYC! After many hours of lessons and practice, Keanu won his first tournament at the age of 7, winning the Boys 9 and under Singles at the Beenleigh Junior Development Series. At the age of 8, he won the Boys 10 and under singles at the Lismore Open Age Junior Championship, and the goal for 2014 is to win a Boys 12 and under championship at the age of 10! All up Keanu has won over 20 trophies and medals in various tennis tournaments, with the goal of one day adding the winners trophies from all four grand slams!

Suleman Jafarey-Hallnow coach’s Keanu full time, and Rehana has started coaching Alaska, Keanu’s younger sister, and she is determined to be a better tennis player than her older brother!

With the opportunities at the PCYC and support from the great staff, Sienna has achieved a Performing Arts Scholarship at Miami High, Keanu is on track to be to a professional tennis player, and Alaska has the world at her feet!

Thank You PCYC!

Gymnastics

On the 10th of November 2013 our Gymnastics team and their Coaches Mary, Linda and Annette went to Beaudesert Gymnastics Club for the Womens' Artistic Gymnastics (WAG)  level 1 to 5 and Mens' Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) level 1 competition.

Level 2 received first, second and third overall placings. Level 3 received overall first, second and third overall placings. Level 4 received second overall and level 5 second overall.

MAG Boys did very well and we are very proud of their efforts and how they competed on the day. Annette was a very happy coach with their outcome. The boys received second overall in the final placings taking our club to the top and receiving the trophy for the best club on the day.

Thank you to Mary our head coach, Linda second in charge and Annette for the hard work and commitment that they have put into the training.  I would also like to thank the parents whom traveled so far for this competition.  It was fantastic to come away with success and such a great result.

Blue Light Discos at PCYC Gold Coast.

Our Blue Light Discos are generally held the second Friday of each month with a break during January each year.  They are very popular with around three hundred children attending.  We have plenty of supervision with off duty police and civilian volunteers at every event.  We also have a team of 60 young volunteers who are doing their Duke of Edinburgh Award who come along to ensure everyone is having a good time.

Our next disco is "End of Year Celebrations" with a party room put aside for Grade 7 to socialise in and meet others who might be changing schools.

The cost is normally $7 but as our Christmas gift to you this disco is only $5.  Why not let us watch the kids while you enjoy a nice meal out in peace.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Training at the Gold Coast PCYC

What a FANTASTIC morning for all the Gold Coast PCYC staff and members, we had the pleasure of watching the South Sydney Rabbitohs training in our very  own gym.

They came in 2 groups with their trainers and staff and had an awesome workout.

The guys were super friendly towards our members, and were very happy and willing to have photos taken for our club.

We are proud to be a part of the South Sydney Rabbitohs home away from home training facility.

GOOD LUCK FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON
